A heart-shaped sheet turned up as a surprise from Y’s German family, along with a tradition called Bettlaken zerschneiden (“cutting the bedsheet”). The couple cuts out the heart together, a small first challenge that’s meant to set the tone: work as a team. Once the heart is free, the groom A carries the Y through the opening, a playful step into their married life.
